A Citizens Guide to the Purpose, Process and Implementation of a
Neighborhood Revitalization District (NRD)
NRD (Neighborhood Revitalization District) is a zoning category that was approved by the Greenwood County Council as an option for neighborhoods to apply standards to properties above the current county standards.
Purpose. The NRD provides the ability for neighborhood groups or organizations to establish development standards for the maintenance of property beyond the current level of county law. This district is typically geared towards older neighborhoods who suffer from vacant, physically declining and under performing properties and where there is a need to stimulate the development or redevelopment of the neighborhood. Crime Prevention
How can we get a Neighborhood Watch Sign?
Okay….just imagine this: you see a suspicious person in your neighborhood, or you see someone committing a crime….or…..maybe you think that the child living down the street from you is being abused….but you are just not sure whether or not to get involved…..what do you do? Well, you could call 9-1-1 but then they ask you for your name, address….etc…..you are afraid to call them because you don’t want to give your name out….again….what do you do? Well, here is your answer: The number listed above is a number that you can call to report suspicious activity and crime WITHOUT GIVING THEM YOUR NAME! That’s right! Anyone, anywhere in Greenwood County, can now anonymously call the number listed above to report crime! *This also helps the dispatchers to keep the lines free for emergency calls coming in from the 9-1-1 line! It’s a win-win-win solution!
Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office Offers Home Security Survey and Checklist
Grendel Village Community Association National Night Out
Out of growing concerns for seniors and at risk citizens in our county the Community Services Division of the Sheriff‘s Office would like create a new volunteer service, “A Good Day Call.” This will be a program designed to collect names and data from seniors and/or other citizens who may be at risk. Each person will be assigned to a GCSO volunteer who will commit to calling assigned citizens frequently checking on their well being. Hence, this will be a Good Day Call not just checking on the citizen’s but spreading “good cheer” as well. We understand that some people may go for days without hearing another’s voice or having someone concerned for them. When one is found in danger or discomfort then someone will respond to them trying to ensure their safety and quality of life.
We need your help! Obtaining the names, address, and information from people in need is made difficult through some government restrictions. Consequently, we need for you or your organization to give us a call and let us know who really needs a Good Day Call. Further, we will need volunteers.
If you can give us names, assistance, suggestions, or your time, please give us a call at the Community Services Division of the Sheriff’s Office and ask for Community Services Deputy Bill Quarles or Major Sonny Cox at 864-943-8045. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may give to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and the people of Greenwood County.
